Axial gap machines have superior attributes in many applications. While permanent magnets and today’s power electronics have been applied to optimize both radial and axial gap machines, winding structures have been constrained by uniform wire diameter and geometry. ECM has perfected a process that optimizes copper geometries and winding patterns to deliver superior efficiency at a reduced cost.
ECM’s motors integrate seamlessly with different diameter AUVs to provide compact, efficient solutions. This contributes to increased payload and longer range. ECM is currently delivering a high torque, low RPM motor to a large AUV manufacturer that is significantly quieter and more efficient than their present solution.
ECM has developed a prototype drive motor for a German manufacturer’s next generation mid-drive e-bike. The ECM solution has reduced weight and volume, improved integration, maximized efficiency and enhanced the ride experience. ECM is working with the same manufacturer to develop a “last mile package delivery” solution for European cities where internal combustion engines are banned within the city limits.
As one of the largest electric motor markets in the world, HVACR is leading the transition to PCB Stator technology. ECM is involved with leading pump, fan, and compressor manufacturers to provide cost-effective, energy conservative, straight to market solutions for both the residential and commercial HVACR markets.
ECM was awarded a MARAD contract to design and build a replacement 3hp motor for an application aboard a government training vessel. The motor has undergone sea trials, reduced weight by more than 60% and improved operating efficiency. ABS issued a “Statement of Maturity” for ECM’s PCB stator technology and confirmed the reduction of onboard weight and increased motor efficiency.
ECM is engaged in several cutting edge medical projects making an impact in patient lives. Our motor technology is powering an arm brace that helps restore function in arms paralyzed by stroke, brachial plexus injury (BPI), cerebral palsy and other neuromuscular diseases and injuries. ECM’s technology can also be found in a lightweight oxygen concentrator that allows patients to remain active and move about without the inconvenience of an oxygen tank.
