ECM’s COVID-19 Response: 3D Printing Face Shields For Emerson Hospital

The COVID-19 pandemic spread suddenly and shocked us all. Businesses around the globe were shut down and schools were suspended. The beds at hospitals quickly filled and personal protective equipment became in short supply. Within weeks, the shortage was forcing health professionals across the country into unnecessary exposure to the virus.

Emerson Hospital in Concord, MA was no outlier and they quickly reached out to the community for support. ECM was fortunate enough to have the facilities needed to manufacture the face shields in short supply so while most of the ECM team social-distanced from home offices, a small team of engineers remained at our lab in Billerica, MA to support the growing demand at Emerson.

For 2 weeks, the 3D printers in our facility were dedicated to printing face shields and ECM ended up delivering close to 200 pieces.

At ECM we are happy to contribute to the community in every way we can, especially in these uncertain times. We are checking in on Emerson and supporting their ongoing fight against the virus. We salute the health professionals at Emerson and around the world for putting themselves at risk daily and hope that our face shields will be of service. Thank-you.
